Robin Salutes Striking Mott's Workers

Good morning. I’m Robin Wilt, candidate for State Senate in New York’s 56th Senate District, and it is my pleasure and honor to be here with RWDSU Local 220 today. I want to take a moment to recognize all of the members of the local, but especially President Applebaum for all of your efforts. I have been following your struggles since the strike began on May 23rd, and I admire your commitment and tenacity in the face of difficult circumstances. Through spending time listening to your experiences, I have learned that you are beloved family members and respected members of the community, aspiring to nothing more than a good day’s pay for an honest day’s work, and access to the American dream. You truly represent us all as a community.

Your courageous actions here are important for workers everywhere. History illustrates that the collective bargaining process, when used effectively, actually facilitates delivery of higher quality goods and services. It is important that the integrity of the negotiating process be maintained so that employee workplace satisfaction is placed on an equal footing with shareholder dividends and CEO salary. Through your professional experience and contributions to the workplace, Motts has been able to deliver a high quality and successful product to the marketplace. In light of that, it is only fair that workers receive their just portion of the rewards garnered from that success.

I am here today to urge Doctor Pepper Snapple to return to the bargaining table. We need to get our local families back to work, helping to produce the products that have made Doctor Pepper Snapple the highly profitable company that it is today. I hope that Doctor Pepper Snapple will take note of the tremendous amount of support that RWDSU Local 220 enjoys, as represented by those who have joined you over the course of this 53 day strike, and realize that they should re-engage in the collective bargaining process in good faith.

I look forward to when we can see you return to your workplace, but in the meantime a heartfelt thank you for standing up for fairness for all workers. Keep up the faith and keep up the struggle.
