Homes for Heroes

It was my distinct honor and pleasure to participate on June 8th in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Homes for Heroes program affiliate in Rochester, NY.

Homes for Heroes tv spotWhen my brother, Capt. William B. Reynolds, III, returned home from Iraq after being injured in combat, as a REALTOR ®, one of the responsibilities that I assumed was to help him purchase a home to help him rebuild his life in Rochester.  He was fortunate enough to have a family-member in the industry to assist him.  Not all our heroes who serve the community are in that position. But precisely because they are our community heroes, we need to take responsibility as a community to provide for their needs.  It is not always easy to find the best lending or purchase options that are available to our veterans and public service professionals.   And once you do find the programs that uniquely serve veterans or other public servants, the bureaucratic overhead to take advantage of those benefits is often much higher.

We now have an even greater number of veterans returning to our communities, so it is crucial that we provide the resources to make sure that their needs are met.  Michele Ladd and John Waugh of True North Realtors are to be commended for their commitment to ensuring that financial and real estate professionals are able to give a little bit back, not only to the heroes who so valiantly serve our community in armed combat, but also to those that serve the public by providing education, health care, law enforcement, or firefighting.

We all appreciate that service to our country and our local communities deserves its rewards, and it is humbling to be able, in our mission as real estate professionals, to give back in this small way to those who have done so much to protect and serve our community.
