Practical Alternatives

(This is Robin's response to the Democrat & Chronicle's endorsement process).

The Democrat and Chronicle seems to have considered their endorsement with the preconceived notion that the only way for New York to balance its budget is through program cuts; I reject that frame. As every working family knows, budgets can be balanced not only by decreasing expenditures, but also by increasing revenue.

Reinstating the stock transfer tax would result in an estimated $16B in revenue, closing the budget gap without any material effect on working families.

Another policy that I advocate is comprehensive public health insurance for all New Yorkers, which would reduce health care costs in New York by billions year-over-year, garner efficiencies in the pension system, and eliminate the need for municipalities to fund health care through regressive property taxes.

Since declaring my candidacy in mid-June, I have always said that I would advocate for commonsense policies that would benefit everyday working families in New York. The overwhelming similarity between the endorsement questionnaires of the Democrat and Chronicle and the Rochester Business Alliance reveals an underlying special interest that clearly demonstrates to whose benefit the Democrat and Chronicle is working. If my populist, volunteer-fueled campaign results in my election, I will be proudly accountable only to the voters, not to big corporate special interests.
